Couple rescued after Karkloof fall
Durban - A man and woman are in a critical condition after they fell off the Karkloof Falls in the KZN Midlands on Saturday.
SAPS provincial spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said the couple were rescued by the Pietermaritzburg Search and Rescue members after a failed attempt to cross the river.
“They fell onto the rocks in the river whilst attempting to cross the river in the Karkloof area. They were taken to hospital in a serious condition and no case has been opened,” said Mbhele.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said at 4pm on Saturday Netcare 911 responded to reports of a patient who had fallen off the Karkloof Falls in the KZN Midlands.
“Reports from the scene indicate that a male and female both aged in their mid thirties had fallen off the small Karkloof Falls,”said Herbst.
Herbst said both patients were pulled out the water by a member of the public who had witnessed the fall.
“The male patient had sustained serious injuries and required Advanced Life Support intervention and the female patient had sustained moderate injuries,” he said.
Both patients were transported to hospital by two other private ambulance services for further treatment.
